Inspired by papers presented at the second international English Across the Curriculum (EAC) conference, this book provides a platform for those involved in the EAC movement to exchange insights, explore new strategies and directions, and share experiences. It speaks not only to EAC practitioners but also to scholars in a range of related fields, whether they are considering starting an EAC-like initiative or are already involved in an established EAC, Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL), or Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) program. The chapters in the book testify to challenges faced, opportunities presented, and a passion displayed for embedding academic English literacy in courses in a range of disciplines at institutions around the world. They also highlight the persistence and determination of teachers in creating and shaping valuable learning experiences and ongoing support for their students.

Bruce Morrison is the former Director of the English Language Centre of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. His research focus has primarily been on the tertiary English language experience for non-native speaking students, the language-related challenges they face, and the various strategies they employ to overcome these. His other research interests include independent language learning and the impact of computer-mediated teaching for tertiary English language teachers. He has published journal articles, book chapters, and edited books in these and other areas.
Julia Chen is Director of the Educational Development Centre at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She was the chief organizer of the 2015, 2018, and 2021 international conferences on English Across the Curriculum Conference and the principal investigator of several large-scale government-funded inter-university projects on EAC and using technology for academic literacy development. Her work has been published in edited collections, conference proceedings, and journals including The Electronic Journal of e-Learning, International Journal of Information and Education Technology, JACET Journal, Asian ESP Journal, and Journal of Interactive Learning Research.
Linda Lin, who holds a Ph.D. in applied linguistics, works as program coordinator for the English Language Centre of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She has extensive experience in L2 language learning and teaching, L2 language writing analysis, and pedagogic development. Her research interests include academic writing, vocabulary learning, corpus analysis, and applications of concordancing in teaching and learning. She has published articles in journals including ELR Journal, Journal of English for Academic Purposes, English for Specific Purposes, and The English Teacher as well as in edited collections. She also serves as an editor for ELR Journal.
Alan Urmston is an independent educator and consultant based in Hong Kong. He was formerly Assistant Professor in the English Language Centre at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, where he was coordinator of assessments and Director of the English Language Testing Unit. He teaches courses at the masters and doctorate level, consults for universities, government and commercial assessment providers, and is actively involved in the field of language assessment as a researcher, reviewer, editor, and developer. In one of his current projects, he is helping the Polytechnic University to assist colleagues across the university in the development of rubrics for the assessment of writing and speaking across the disciplines.
